iTunes Ringtones
It’s good to see that someone put into writing what I’ve been thinking since the Apple Special event last week regarding the new iPhone ringtone feature. I thought it was crazy notion to have to pay again for a song I already own, especially since you are only paying for a 30 second clip to use as a ringtone. Since the iPhone is also an iPod, then why can’t I just select any song on the phone to play when someone calls without going through these extra steps? Oh yea, it’s all about money..
John Gruber’s words:
The whole ringtones racket is predicated on the notion that ringtones are something different than songs. This notion is bullshit. You don’t turn songs into ringtones; you treat them as ringtones. They’re not even a different file format. It’s just a different context for playing the same song on the same device
Personally, I just don’t really see the point of going that far to get a stupid ringtone that nobody is going to care about besides you anyway.
